History of Polk County OR Real Estate

Ownership of Polk County real estate was created from the Yamhill District by the Oregon Provisional Legislature in December of 1845. It included all of Southwest Oregon to California’s border. The boundaries changed slightly to accommodate the formation of Lincoln and Benton counties. As settlements spread, other counties were created. This has moved Polk County border far from California. The first county seat was to the north of Rickreall Creek and named Cynthia. In 1852 it was renamed Dallas after James Polk’s vice president, George M Dallas.
